General framework of the National Coastal Commission
The Algerian coast is an exceptional asset and a true jewel that combines environmental, economic, cultural and social values with quality of life — a unique natural and human heritage. Its preservation and sustainable management are now, more than ever, a collective responsibility essential to ensuring the harmonious and lasting development of our country.
The National Coastal Commission, as the central body in charge of managing, monitoring and overseeing the national policy for the protection and enhancement of the coast, plays a pivotal role in implementing the strategic directions set by the public authorities, with full commitment and rigour. Our approach is based on an integrated, multidisciplinary vision rooted in solid scientific knowledge, close consultation among stakeholders, proactive prevention of environmental and natural risks, and the protection and enhancement of the fragile biodiversity that characterises coastal areas.
Implementing the core principle laid down by Law No. 02-02 of 5 February 2002 on the protection and enhancement of the coast therefore requires the active, coordinated mobilisation of all stakeholders: local authorities, public institutions, researchers, associations, economic actors and citizens — so as to ensure the sustainable management of coastal areas, particularly the most vulnerable ones.
Citizens' quality of life lies at the heart of our concerns: a coast that is protected, clean, accessible and valued contributes directly to people's well-being, public health, the appeal of the regions, and the emergence of a sustainable local economy built on responsible tourism, eco-friendly leisure and the preservation of landscapes.
Thanks to our network of regional stations, our solid institutional and scientific partnerships, our innovative field actions and our ambitious awareness-raising campaigns, we continue to pursue a clear and ambitious goal: to strike a lasting balance between the demands of protecting the coastal environment and those of social and economic development, while respecting natural balances, the needs of local communities, and the ongoing improvement of their quality of life.
This portal is intended as a dynamic and open space dedicated to information, awareness raising and collective participation. It allows you to follow our activities, projects, publications and initiatives, all of which aim to make the Algerian coast a better protected, better valued and more resilient territory in the face of today’s environmental, climatic, social and economic challenges. It also gives you access to knowledge, information, environmental culture and all the documentation related to the coast and its legal texts.
The site plays a key role in communication between the Commission and all institutions placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, as well as between the Commission and citizens, in order to highlight the various challenges facing the coast and to achieve the main objectives related to identifying the necessary solutions.
It also showcases all national and international partnerships and agreements, and the various forms of bilateral and multilateral cooperation to which Algeria is party, in the fields of the coastal and marine environment and the integrated management of coastal zones and natural sites. The portal thus serves as a key reference for information on the activities and work of the National Coastal Commission.
We call for broad, solidarity-driven participation — engaged citizens, public institutions, passionate researchers, environmental associations and responsible economic actors — in order to make the Algerian coast an exemplary model of sustainability, solidarity and shared progress.
Let us all unite to protect and enhance this exceptional heritage, for the well-being of present and future generations, and let us make the coast a powerful driver of sustainable development, innovation, quality of life and shared prosperity.
